The Middle School Science Fair

The Foundation for Science Research in New Rochelle, in partnership with Isaac Young Middle School, Albert Leonard Middle School, the Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle, the High School Science Research Program, and the New Rochelle Public Library, is pleased to announce the first Annual Middle School Research Fair to be held at the New Rochelle Public Library on Saturday, January 11, 2020. This is an opportunity for all students in the 7th and 8th grades to do an independent research project on a topic of their choice related to science, technology, social studies, math, sports, english, and art. Upon completion of their project, the participant will create a poster board presentation and present it to student-judges. The top eligible projects [not all subjects are eligible] will continue on to compete at the Tri-County Science Fair in White Plains in the spring. From here, top projects may compete at the nationwide Broadcom MASTERS Science Fair. Thank you for considering participation!

Guidelines:

  1. Pick a project within any STEAM field with the assistance of a student-chosen advisor. This advisor can be any teacher, club leader, parent, family-friend or upper-classman who is willing to provide some modest oversight and guidance in project selection and time management.
  2. Complete the project by mid to late November.
  3. Create a presentation poster board and narrative with the assistance of High School student volunteers, to be completed by mid-to-late December.
  4. Practice the presentation daily to parents, friends, and student-volunteers until competition day.
  5. Throughout the process, advisors, parents, and students may email the organizing committee to seek advice. Interim conference calls may be scheduled to answer questions.

The Foundation for Science Research in New Rochelle, with support from the New Rochelle Fund for Excellence, will provide assistance purchasing supplies to complete the students’ projects if requested.
